UNESCO Etxea organizes a fringe event on the human right to water at the 35th General Conference

On 19th October the Social and Human Sciences Sector and the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO and UNESCO Etxea organized a fringe event to present their joint work on the human right to water, within the framework of UNESCOs 35th General Conference.

At the Cultivating Water exhibition area, Marguerite Chaisemartin (UNESCO), Ylva Lennartsson-Hartmann (UNESCO) and Natalia Uribe (UNESCO Etxea), presented the legal basis of the human right to water, the situation relating to the lack of access to water in the world and the meaning of this right.

They also reported on the main recommendations of the international meeting of experts on the human right to water which both organisation organised together on 6th and 7th July 2009. This meetings main contributions are gathered together in a publication which was presented for the first time at this event, and is available in English, French and Spanish.
