UNESCO Poster Competition: to design the Cultural Diversity

The UNESCO Poster competition Culture Counts has ended with the exhibition of posters-winners in Paris. Launched in January in the framework of 2010, International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, UNESCOs poster competition Culture Counts is a joint initiative of DESIGN21: Social Design Network/Felissimo and UNESCO. The initiative invited graphic designers from five continents to create a poster expressing their vision and understanding of the rapprochement of cultures by designing posters that creatively emphasize the importance of exchange and dialogue among and between cultures in ensuring social cohesion and harmonious coexistence.

In addition to the general judging criteria of Overall Effectiveness, Creativity, Practicality and Aesthetics, the judges for the competition were looking for the ability to graphically and visually communicate the message of Rapprochement of Cultures in a compelling and easy-to-understand.

50 posters were selected for display in an online gallery linked to UNESCOs website dedicated to the celebration of the International Year 2010. From 50 selected posters, 30 posters were printed for an exhibition that was held at UNESCO HQ from17 to 21 of May 2010 in the framework of the UNESCO International Festival of Cultural Diversity.

The first prize has won Brazilian designer Diego Rossi for his poster, which is called Smiles and Flowers.
