1st september: UNESCO Etxea participates on United Nations day at Expo Zaragoza

On 1st September, United Nations Day, at EXPO Zaragoza, UNESCO Etxea and the United Nations Office to support the International Decade for Action Water, source of life 2005-2015 officially presented their joint publication on water as a human right.

The human right to water: situation and future challenges highlights the seriousness of the current situation: over 1.1 billion people have no access to safe drinking water and over 2.6 billion lack proper sanitation. This publication presents the latest progress within the international law framework aimed at the recognition and protection of the access to water and sanitation as a human right.

The publication, made up of articles from representatives of the United Nations, academics and NGOs, including UNESCO Etxea, seeks to collaborate towards the technical study and the promotion of the human right to water, hoping to encourage reflection and contribute towards its implementation.

The presentation was attended, amongst others, by Mikel Mancisidor, Director of UNESCO Etxea and Carlos Fernndez-Juregui, Coordinator of the United Nations Office to support the International Decade for Action Water, source of life 2005-2015.
