23rd July: Advance of the UNITED NATIONS WORLD WATER DEVELOPMENT REPORT. Presentation of the CASE STUDY ON WATER MANAGEMENT AND POLICIES IN THE BASQUE AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY

On Wednesday 23rd July at 7.30 pm in the United Nations Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008 the case study on water management in the Basque Autonomous Community (Spain) will be presented. It has been recognised for the second consecutive time by the United Nations and as such will be contained in the next United Nations World Water Development Report.

This triennial Report offers a global vision of the state of water, the state of the policies and their most critical aspects, as well as the best management practices in the form of case studies.

The Third edition of the United Nations World Water Development Report Water in a Changing World` is currently under preparation and will be presented at the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul, Turkey on March 16, 2009.

On this occasion and as an advance of the Report the Basque case study will be presented and participating in the presentation of this Basque case study will be:

Mr. Carlos Fernndez-Juregui, coordinator of the United Nations Office to support the International Decade for Action Water for Life 2005-2015;

Mr. Olcay nver, coordinator of the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), housed by UNESCO,

Ms. Ana Oregi, vice-counsellor for Land Planning and Waters of the Basque Government, who will present the most significant aspects to explain why water management in the Basque Autonomous Region has again been recognised by the United Nations.
